POMPEII
On August 24th in 79 A.D. a massive volcanic eruption destroyed the Roman city of Pompeii when millions of tons of lava instantly petrified the bodies of 2000 of its inhabitants.
Pompeii is the incarnation of a civilization that was destroyed by this natural disaster. Some of its underground corridors were accidentally discovered in 1594 but serious scientific excavation did not begin until the 18th century. Even today, more than one third of the city remains concealed beneath volcanic rock.
Because of the airtight conditions beneath the lava, Pompeii is the most well preserved ancient city in the world with perfectly preserved streets and buildings that provide detailed information of the former living conditions, trade, commerce and art of Roman times.
The lively city attempted to compete with Rome and offered its visitors and guests abundant luxury and diverse entertainments and the interiors of the buildings with their magnificent reliefs indicate the wealth and high living standards of Pompeii’s elite.

Pe 24 august în 79 d.Hr., o erupție vulcanică masivă a distrus orașul roman Pompeii, când milioane de tone de lavă au pietrificat instantaneu cadavrele a 2000 de locuitori ai săi.
Pompeii este întruparea unei civilizații care a fost distrusă de acest dezastru natural. Unele dintre coridoarele sale subterane au fost descoperite accidental în 1594, dar săpăturile științifice serioase nu au început până în secolul al XVIII-lea. Chiar și astăzi, mai mult de o treime din oraș rămâne ascunsă sub roca vulcanică.
Datorită condițiilor etanșe de sub lavă, Pompeii este cel mai bine conservat oraș antic din lume, cu străzi și clădiri perfect conservate, care oferă informații detaliate despre fostele condiții de viață, comerț, comerț și artă din epoca romană.
Orașul plin de viață a încercat să concureze cu Roma și a oferit vizitatorilor și oaspeților săi lux abundent și diverse distracții, iar interioarele clădirilor cu reliefurile lor magnifice indică bogăția și standardele ridicate de viață ale elitei Pompeii.
