In Sri Lanka, a primarily Buddhist country, the Ceylon Elephant is considered a sacred animal. For centuries Sri Lankans and elephants have lived in peace, with mutual respect towards each other. However, as the population of Sri Lanka grows, elephant habitats are being destroyed rapidly, which has lead to deaths on both sides. One man, Marjo Hoedemaker, has dedicated his life to saving the future of the Sri Lankan elephant. Whilst they were once at risk, Marjo's work has ensured the wild population of Ceylon Elephants has started to flourish.
